Saturday, September 21, 2013

Are you reading any interesting books at the moment? Night Corridor by Joan Hall Hovey
Mission Possible: Help Me Find My Tribe by Janet Louise Stephenson

Are there any new authors that have sparked your interest and why? Lisa Regan, author of Finding Claire Fletcher - it's a tough read but I think she did a really good job with the tough subject of someone living through abduction.

David M. Brown, author of A World Apart. He has created this whole other world, Elenchera that is very well done and very believable.

What are some of the best tools available today for writers, especially those just starting out? Join a writing group or a critique group. They can join a group in their area or on the internet. Get your hands on books or visit websites that talk about writing, marketing, publishing your book. Find people who like to read what you write. And best of all, read the types of books that you want to write. You will learn a lot.

What contributes to making a writer successful? The willingness to write. A lot. Being willing to learn. To read. To ask questions. And then to put your stuff out there so that others can give feedback. Learn from what other's tell you.

Do you have any advice for writers? Write. Find what works for you and then write. Anything goes these days so write what interests you. If you're not sure what that is, look at what you like to read and then try to write it. And read. Read the types of stories you like to read but also about writing, editing, marketing, plotting, anything that will help you to better understand writing. But really writing is just one of those things that you just have to do.

Do you have any specific last thoughts that you want to say to your readers? I too love to read, so I am always looking for a good book, so if you know of one, let me know on my facebook page www.facebook.com/authormaggiethom or connect with me on goodreads http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/6549592.Maggie_Thom

What do you do to unwind and relax? I read, I exercise, I hike in nature, I drink tea, I meditate (I love doing this although I'm not the most dedicated to it), I go outside and sit (when it's nice, of course), I do something with my family - play games, hike, etc.

What dreams have been realized as a result of your writing? That I truly can do whatever I put my mind to, that I'm a published author, that I'm inspiring others, that I can write for a living.

Do you have any upcoming appearances that you would like to share with us? I am doing a book tour with Orangeberry Book Tours. So click on this link, to follow me. I have a few other things in the works, best thing is to follow my blog www.maggiethom.com or connect with me on facebook www.facebook.com/authormaggiethom to keep informed.

If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be? Your dream doesn't need to be a race to get there it can be a slow and steady pace but at some point make the leap to making it happen. You won't regret it. See the positive in every step you take.

When you wish to end your career, stop writing, and look back on your life, what thoughts would you like to have? That not only did I inspire others but I was able to guide and to encourage and maybe played a small part in helping others live their dreams. That I touched many people by how I lived.
